Many of my drawings are based on memory or a feeling of a place. There’s layers of detail but more to create a texture, hopefully something you can get lost in. Several of these drawings have taken years to complete because of the size, sometimes 30” X 40”. I use grey scale, monochrome tones of ink & graphite- I feel it helps to create a mood I’m after. Several people have commented on a “quietness” they felt from the pictures. Others enjoy the detail of the mark making, which is part of the balance I try to strike between something visually sharp and defined, and then space or an open, abstract quality- an undefined element. The two together creates a certain quality, which is hard for me to put into words but the search and combination of these things definitely inspires the work.
